First Green Campus Health University of India
Baba Farid University of Health Sciences was established under an Act passed by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in July, 1998. The mission of the University is to create an intellectual, academic and physical environment, conducive to free flow of ideas and exchange of information between various faculties of the University and between this University and other Universities of Health Sciences in the country and abroad, there by opening a window to the world for the health professionals, health planners, health managers, biomedical and social scientists and educators in health sciences of the country.
University Established in the memory of Great Sufi Saint Baba Farid ji by Punjab Government in July, 1998 by an Act of the State Legislature. Fifth of its kind in India, First in Northern India – Punjab Government deserves the credit of establishing it. Due to inadequacy of health professionals(in quantity & quality) the need was imminent. Such a University is expected to be a ‘Pace-setter’ – in developing appropriate modes & models of Health Care. University committed to providing Community oriented need based education & Training programmes for Health professionals.
Mission
The mission of the University shall be to create an intellectual, academic and physical environment which will be conductive to free flow of ideas and exchange of information between various faculties of the University, between this university and other universities of Health Sciences in the country and abroad, thereby opening a window to the world for the health professionals, health professionals, health planners, health managers, bio-medical and social scientists and educators in health sciences of the country.
Objectives
The objectives of the University shall be,-
(i) To establish uniformity in standards of education in all Faculties of Health Sciences including modern system of medicine, dental medicine and surgery, [Indian Systems of Medicine, Homoeopathy]* and various paramedical and Para dental disciplines such as Nursing, Medical laboratory technology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Speech therapy, with a view to enhancing the quality of such education and consistently aiming to modernize, improve and achieve the highest standards of academic excellence at all levels; [ ]*omitted vide Pb. (ii) To promote and carry out research in various disciplines of Health Sciences with special focus on social and economic relevance of such research, and with emphasis on occupational, and environmental health issues affecting the people;
(iii) To establish and develop study centres integrating all disciplines relevant to health sciences especially those which are not presently included in the syllabi and curricula of undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses. These shall include but not be restricted to, population sciences, health systems and health services management, human resource development, educational technology, bio-informatics and telematics and continuing education in health sciences.
(iv) To promote the development and use of information technology as a part of technological infrastructure with a view to providing attractive and innovative facilities for studies in various modalities of information technology including telecommunications and access to INTERNET, LIBNET, MEDLARS and other networks.
(v) To enhance computer literacy professionals, faculty and students; and
(vi) To attain the highest standards of academic excellence by providing the necessary physical infrastructure and creating an intellectual environment conducive to free flow of ideas and meaningful exchange of information.

Recognition of Degrees
a)His Excellency the Governor of Punjab has recognized all the degrees and diplomas certificates and other academic distinctions awarded by the this University w.e.f. 1st July, 1999.
The Govt. of India has recognized the degrees being awarded by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences on the recommendation of NMC/DCI/INC etc.
